The Mount Pleasant kitchen renovation project presented us at Hatch Renovations with an opportunity to push the boundaries of design and preservation. Our task was to transform a once dark, heavy timber kitchen into a bright, white, airy space that reflected a seamless fusion of coastal and Scandinavian styles.
Preserving the original footprint was crucial. We wanted to respect the existing structure, primarily the exquisite timber floors. This approach not only maintained the character of the kitchen but also significantly helped in keeping the renovation costs within our client’s budget.
The transformation began with offsetting the existing dark timber with a bright, white palette. The new colour scheme immediately invigorated the space, lending it an airy, coastal feel that was at once refreshing and inviting. This rejuvenating shift in ambiance set the perfect tone for the desired blend of coastal and Scandinavian aesthetics.
Our attention to detail and creative flair came to the forefront in the introduction of timber accents. These accents brought warmth to the kitchen and established a sense of harmony between the original timber and the new elements. The interplay of timber and white hues beautifully echoed the coastal theme while maintaining a touch of Scandinavian minimalism.
The splashback was another area where we could introduce an innovative design element. We opted for subway tiles arranged in a herringbone pattern. This unique detailing added a touch of unexpected visual interest that further elevated the aesthetic appeal of the kitchen.
As the renovation progressed, the kitchen began to transform before our eyes. The result was a bright, welcoming kitchen that married the coastal and Scandinavian themes in a harmony of design and functionality. This project stands as proof that transformative renovations need not always involve extensive structural alterations. Instead, with a thoughtful approach and a keen eye for design, it is possible to completely reinvent a space while preserving its original charm.
